3. Tours, prices, and what is included

Scheduled tours (shared, public, adults 21+)

A scheduled tour is a shared, full-day, adults-only wine-country experience offered on selected dates. Tours are planned around three winery stops, using a rotating route schedule across four routes. Individual guests cannot substitute a different route. Guests may be solo travelers, couples, friends, or small groups booking seats together.

Explorer — $99 per person, plus a 6% booking fee
Includes scheduled transportation, the guided Vineyard Voyages experience, and coordinated or reserved winery seating. Explorer guests choose and purchase their own wine at each winery.

Connoisseur — $179 per person, plus a 6% booking fee
Includes everything in Explorer, plus a preselected tasting or flight at each of the three wineries, a wine-education component, and a charcuterie cup. A complimentary Vineyard Voyages stainless-steel tumbler is included when the Connoisseur ticket is booked directly through Vineyard Voyages.

What the ride is like: An air-conditioned bus with music and trivia about Virginia wine and the region. Hosts are Christian Hoeffel, Dan, and Haley.

Not included on either ticket: lunch. The Connoisseur charcuterie cup is not a full lunch. On a scheduled tour you order lunch at the winery — most partner wineries offer sandwiches, wraps, salads and charcuterie boards, and the second stop is where there is time for it. Gratuity, taxes, add-ons and anything not specifically listed are not included.

Booking terms: Scheduled tour sales are final. Optional Trip Protection may be added at checkout for $15 per person, which permits cancellation until 24 hours before departure, subject to the terms shown at checkout. A permitted rescheduled tour must take place within the same calendar year. If fewer than six guests are booked, affected guests may choose another available date or apply their ticket value toward converting the experience to a private tour for an additional fee.

Rules on board: Alcohol is not permitted aboard scheduled-tour vehicles. The scheduled tour may use a smaller vehicle than the 27-passenger bus when appropriate. Tours operate rain or shine.

Private tours

10 to 50 guests, from $150 per person.

Private tours run four to eight hours and are planned around your group. You choose the wineries, the pace, and the extras. Pickup can be at your office, hotel, home, Airbnb, or either of our scheduled pickup points. Multiple pickup points can be requested, though they affect route, duration, vehicle access and price.

Private experiences are designed for corporate outings, bachelorette celebrations, bachelor parties, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions, bridal showers, graduations, club and association outings, and friend gatherings. Guests under 21 may be accommodated on a private tour if their ages are disclosed during planning.

Booking terms: A $500 nonrefundable deposit secures your date. Final payment is due two weeks before the tour. Plan about one month in advance, particularly for weekend dates and larger groups; shorter notice may be possible. Submitting an inquiry or requesting a proposal does not reserve a date.

Food: Lunch can be catered for a private tour, arranged during planning along with winery food pairings and any dietary requirements. Catering must be ordered at least 48 hours before the tour date.

What is included: Tastings, meals, charcuterie, gratuity, taxes and fees are included only when the accepted proposal specifically lists them. The accepted proposal and final agreement control.

On board: Alcohol may be permitted on some private tours when expressly approved as part of the final plan. Music, decorations, and outside food or drink should be discussed during planning, as vehicle and winery rules vary. Virginia ABC law prohibits outside alcohol on winery grounds.

Bus rental and group transportation

Private bus rental and group transportation may be available without a full winery-tour package, including one-way transportation requests. See /bus-rental.

International vineyard journeys

Multi-day curated journeys combining wine regions, cultural experiences, transportation and accommodations. Christian Hoeffel accompanies every international journey. Guests must be 21 or older. Airfare to and from the destination is not included. Deposit amounts, payment schedules, cancellation terms and inclusions vary by journey and are stated on each trip page.

Current journey: France, 2027 — from $4,675 per person. See /international.

Partner wineries

Scheduled tours visit three wineries per trip across four rotating routes. Partner wineries include Casanel Vineyards & Winery, Fleetwood Farm Winery, and Firefly Cellars. A winery may be substituted if it becomes unavailable, though this is rare. Partner benefits and discounts vary by winery and route and are not disclosed before the tour begins. The full route list is at /wineries-tour-routes.

Corporate and team outings

"Great experience had by the 26 people in my group. Planned a work trip and it was seemless. Christian answered all my questions in a timely fashion and was extra attentive to detail to make sure everything was taken care as changes popped up. Dan was our guide. He made the bus trip pleasurable and interactive. He was very organized to make sure everyone knew where to go, when to go back to the bus, and ensured everyone got their lunch. The winery choices are great! Highly recommend using Vineyard Voyages to plan your next private event!"

Large groups

"Our group of 19 all enjoyed the 3 winery tour! Haley was a great guide and took care of us all day. The trivia was super fun and she was very knowledgeable. Haley and the driver were super friendly and professional. Haley kept us on schedule and while at the wineries we had a blast. My aunt coordinated the event and said the group was super easy to work with to plan the day. Good value and comfortable transportation."

— 204jenh, Tripadvisor, October 24, 2025

"A great tour: for a reasonable fee you visit three vineyards in just 8 hours. We started at 10 am and finished at 6 pm, and the time just flew: a superb guide Dan, coupled with a skilled driver Joseph and a high-spirited group of 19 visitors made the tour worth it. We laughed, cheered, ate, and sang along all the way- highly recommend!"

Birthdays and celebrations

"I had a great time. The wineries were amazing- each with a different, welcoming vibe. This is perfect for a birthday, bridal shower, date or girl's night out. Christian, our tour guide, took great care of everyone on the bus. I would do this again (and just try different wineries) in a heartbeat."

— S9617NKmichellew, Tripadvisor, November 26, 2024

"Beautiful day with my daughter for my birthday...beautiful scenery and wine and charcuterie...ability to talk and chat and just catch up over a glass of wine"

— 86cherylr, Tripadvisor, September 20, 2025

Couples and small parties

"My partner and I took a fabulous wine tour with Vineyard Voyages in May. Dan, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and friendly without being intrusive. He was accessible for conversation and questions, and also somehow gave each of the small groups or couples on the tour enough space to also experience the wine and the vineyards for ourselves. Each winery was unique, venue, experience, wines, ambiance. There were opportunities for us to connect with other participants, as well as to be within our own small groups. Even the time on the bus was enjoyable, with games and trivia about the area and the wine industry here in Virginia. I highly recommend Vineyard Voyages if you want to experience the wine region. Everything about the tour experience was top notch."

— 1designgrl, Tripadvisor, February 26, 2026

"The four of us had a fabulous and relaxing time with Hayley as our tour guide! She shared information with us about the Loudoun County wine country and was attentive to our needs if they came up - from kindly taking photos of us and ensuring our tastings and food were being served in a timely fashion. This is my second tour with Hayley who is an outstanding guide. I highly recommend this tour company."

What the day is actually like

"We had a wonderful time on our Vinyard Voyages wine tour yesterday! Dan, the owner and our tour leader was exceptional. He was quite friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable about the region and its varietals. We love to taste and not worry about getting behind the wheel. The tour was in a brand new midsize bus with about twenty passengers. Thank goodness for the excellent air-conditioning. In addition to playing trivia we had an excellent playlist of music for the entire journey. Dan took us to three different wineries, which were all welcoming and comfortable. All had very nice wines and of course we took home some bottles. At the second winery, we had the capability to order lunch in advance. The VV website made it easy. They offered various sandwiches, wraps salads, and my wife and I had a nice charcuterie board. The itinerary was spelled out nicely in advance..."

Winter

"I had a great time. Christian is the best host and tour guide. The bus ride was smooth and convenient. I will do it again, and plan to this summer"

5. Questions we are asked most

Planning and cost

What does a guided wine tour in Loudoun County cost per person?
A scheduled seat is $99 (Explorer, tour only) or $179 (Connoisseur, with a preselected tasting at each of the three wineries), plus a 6% booking fee. Private tours start at $150 per person for groups of 10 to 50.

What is the difference between the $99 and the $179 ticket?
Both include transportation, the guided experience, and coordinated winery seating. The $179 Connoisseur ticket adds a preselected tasting or flight at each winery, a wine-education component, and a charcuterie cup, plus a complimentary stainless-steel tumbler when booked directly through Vineyard Voyages. Explorer guests buy their own wine at each stop.

Is lunch included?
No. The Connoisseur charcuterie cup is not a full lunch. Lunch is purchased separately, or coordinated as an option on a private tour.

Where do we get lunch on a scheduled tour?
You order at the winery. Most partner wineries serve food — sandwiches, wraps, salads and charcuterie boards — and the second stop is where there is time to sit down and eat. Lunch is paid for separately and is not part of either ticket.

Can lunch be catered on a private tour?
Yes. Catered lunch is arranged during planning and must be ordered at least 48 hours before your tour date. It is included in your price only when the accepted proposal lists it.

How far in advance should we book?
About a month for private tours, especially weekend dates and larger groups. Shorter notice may be possible.

Does submitting an inquiry reserve my date?
No. An inquiry begins the planning conversation. A $500 deposit secures a private-tour date.

Getting there and getting around

How far is Loudoun County wine country from Washington DC?
Loudoun County sits roughly 25 to 40 miles northwest of Washington DC. Most wineries are 45 to 75 minutes from the city.

Can I get to a wine tour by Metro?
Yes. Our scheduled tours pick up at the West Falls Church Metro Kiss & Ride on the Orange Line, 7040 Haycock Road, Falls Church. Departure is 10:00 AM.

How do people visit Loudoun wineries without driving?
Wineries are spread across rural roads with no walkable connections between them, and rideshare pickup from remote wineries is unreliable. A guided tour with transportation is the practical option, which is what Vineyard Voyages provides.

Can a private tour pick us up at our hotel or house?
Yes. Custom pickup at an office, hotel, conference venue, private residence, or Airbnb may be arranged as part of a private tour.

Where do we park for a scheduled tour pickup?
Parking depends on the pickup point and can change. Contact us before your tour date for current guidance.

What if I am running late?
Call or text 571-250-0827 immediately. Do not assume the vehicle can wait — scheduled tours run a timed route with winery reservations.

Groups and occasions

We are a group of 12 — can we book a private tour?
Yes. Private tours are designed for 10 to 50 guests, from $150 per person. Call 571-250-0827.

Can you handle a corporate outing?
Yes. Corporate experiences are planned for approximately 10 to 50 guests and run four to eight hours, with pickup at your office, hotel or conference venue. We coordinate the route, the winery reservations and the timing.

Can a group book seats together on a scheduled tour?
Yes, subject to availability. Reserve the seats you need on the same date and ticket type.

How many guests fit on the bus?
The executive bus holds up to 27 guests. For private tours we may arrange smaller or larger vehicles depending on group size, pickup needs and itinerary.

On the day

Do tours run in the rain?
Yes. Tours generally operate rain or shine.

Can someone who does not drink wine come along?
Yes. Non-drinkers still enjoy the transportation, scenery, venues, food and group experience. Most partner wineries offer non-alcoholic beverages, and some offer beer or cider.

Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?
Often, when communicated in advance.

How old do I have to be?
Every scheduled-tour guest must be at least 21. Guests under 21 may be accommodated on private tours if disclosed during planning.

Are restrooms available?
Restroom access depends on the itinerary. Winery stops provide the most practical opportunities.

What should I wear?
Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes suitable for walking on winery grounds.

Accessibility and animals

Is the bus wheelchair accessible?
No. The 27-passenger executive bus is not wheelchair accessible. Contact us before booking to discuss options.

Can I bring a walker or other mobility aid?
Contact us before booking. Storage and boarding depend on the aid, the vehicle, the itinerary and venue accessibility.

Are service animals permitted?
Vineyard Voyages accommodates trained service animals as applicable by law. Emotional support animals are not accommodated.

About Loudoun County wine country

What is Loudoun County wine country?
Loudoun County is the wine region immediately west of Washington DC, marketed as "DC's Wine Country." It has more than 50 wineries and tasting rooms across Leesburg, Purcellville, Middleburg, Waterford, Bluemont and the surrounding countryside. Signature Virginia varietals include Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Petit Manseng and Chardonnay.

When is the best time to visit Loudoun County wine country?
It depends on what you are after. Spring and autumn bring the best views and cooler weather, but they are the busiest seasons. Summer is when the vines are at their peak, though it can get warm. Winter is the quiet one — emptier tasting rooms, snowy views, fireplaces lit for a cozy feel, and mulled wine at many of the wineries. There is no bad season, only different ones.

Do you run tours in winter?
Yes. Tours run year-round and operate rain or shine.

Do Loudoun wineries require reservations?
Many do, particularly for weekend tastings and groups. Winery reservations are handled for you on a Vineyard Voyages tour.
