So, you’ve decided it’s time to trade the city traffic and office fluorescent lights for the rolling hills of Virginia wine country. Excellent choice. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, planning the ultimate bachelorette party, or just need a Saturday that involves more grape juice and less laundry, you’ve come to the right place.
At Vineyard Voyages, we like to keep things simple, but we also know that everyone drinks, and travels, a little differently. That’s why we’ve narrowed our main offerings down to two distinct paths: The Connoisseur and The Explorer.
One is a "set it and forget it" VIP experience where the only thing you have to lift is your glass. The other is a flexible, "choose your own adventure" style journey for those who like to call the shots. But which one fits your vibe? Let’s break it down so you can get off the fence and into the vineyard.
The Connoisseur: The "Total Package" Experience
If your idea of a perfect day involves zero math, zero decision-making, and 100% relaxation, the Connoisseur package is calling your name. Priced at $154.99 per person, this is our all-inclusive gold standard.
What It Feels Like
Imagine stepping onto our luxury shuttle bus and knowing that for the next several hours, everything is handled. You don't need to worry about tasting fees, you don't need to look at a menu and wonder which flight is the best representation of the winery, and you certainly don't need to pull out your credit card at every single stop.
The Connoisseur experience is curated. We’ve worked closely with our partner wineries to select flights that tell a story. You’ll usually taste the vineyard’s signature wines, the ones they are famous for, alongside seasonal specialties that might not be on the standard tasting menu.
Why You’ll Love It
- Zero Logistics: You show up, you sip, you move on. It’s the ultimate way to unplug.
- The Best of the Best: Because we pre-arrange these flights, we ensure you’re getting a balanced experience. You won’t accidentally order three heavy reds on a 90-degree July day (unless you really want to!).
- Perfect for Groups: If you’re organizing a group, the Connoisseur package is a lifesaver. You don't have to deal with that awkward moment at the end of a tasting where everyone is trying to Venmo each other for tax and tip. It’s already done.

Who Is This For?
- First-Timers: If you’re new to Virginia wine, let the experts guide you. We’ll make sure you hit the highlights.
- Celebration Squads: Birthday parties and Mother's Day outings thrive on the Connoisseur package because it keeps the focus on the guest of honor, not the logistics.
- The "Spoil Me" Traveler: You work hard. On the weekend, you just want someone to hand you a glass of chilled Viognier without you having to ask.
The Explorer: The "Free Spirit" Route
Maybe you’re the type of person who likes to read the entire menu before ordering. Maybe you’re already a member at one of the wineries on our tour routes. Or maybe you just want to spend your money on a couple of full bottles to share with friends rather than doing a formal tasting. Enter: The Explorer.
Priced at $84.99, this ticket covers your luxury transportation and the expertise of our guides, but leaves the wine choices entirely up to you.
What It Feels Like
The Explorer package is all about freedom. You get the same high-end ride and the same curated itinerary of stops, but once you walk through those winery doors, the world is your oyster. You are responsible for purchasing your own tastings, glasses, or bottles at each stop.
This is perfect for the person who says, "I know exactly what I like, and I want to spend my afternoon sipping a specific Petit Verdot while looking at the mountains."
Why You’ll Love It
- Flexibility: Don’t feel like a full flight? Just grab a glass. Want to split a bottle and a cheese board with your partner? Go for it.
- Budget Control: If you’re a light drinker or if you have wine club memberships that give you free tastings at certain locations, the Explorer package saves you money.
- The Adventurer’s Edge: You can talk to the servers, ask what’s new under the counter, and try the weird, experimental orange wine that isn't on the "standard" list.

Who Is This For?
- The Seasoned Pro: You’ve been to Loudoun County fifty times. You know which wineries have the best Port and which ones have the best views.
- The "Sober-Curious" or Light Drinker: If you only want one glass of wine over the course of the whole day, the Explorer package is much more cost-effective.
- The Collector: You’re there to buy cases for your cellar, and you’d rather put your budget toward the bottles you’re taking home.

Which One is Right for a Corporate Group?
We get this question a lot at our corporate group tours division. For business outings, we almost always recommend the Connoisseur package.
Why? Because business outings are about team building and networking. You don’t want your VP of Sales standing in line to pay for a tasting flight while the interns are already at a table. By choosing the Connoisseur option, the entire experience remains fluid. Everyone gets the same wine at the same time, which makes for a much better shared experience and better conversation. Plus, it’s much easier for your accounting department to approve one single invoice!

Common Questions (FAQs)
"Can my group mix and match?"
Generally, we recommend the whole group picks one style. It keeps the timing of the tour consistent. If half the group is doing a structured tasting (Connoisseur) and the other half is just grabbing a quick glass (Explorer), the Explorers might find themselves waiting around. However, if you have a special request, just ask!
"Is the bus different for each ticket?"
Nope! Everyone travels together in our top-of-the-line shuttle. You’ll get the same comfortable seating, the same great music, and the same expert driver regardless of which ticket you buy.
"What if I change my mind on the day of the tour?"
Because the Connoisseur flights are pre-booked and pre-paid with the wineries to ensure your spot is reserved, we usually can't switch you from Explorer to Connoisseur on the fly. It's best to decide at least a week in advance!
The Vineyard Voyages Difference
Regardless of which ticket you choose, you’re getting more than just a ride. You’re getting an experience curated by people who actually love wine. Christian Hoeffel and the team at Vineyard Voyages have spent years building relationships with these wineries. When you roll up in our bus, the wineries know you’re with us, and that often comes with a level of service and a "prime" seating area that you wouldn't get if you just showed up in an Uber.

We take pride in showing off the best of Northern Virginia. From the hidden gems in the Loudoun County countryside to the big-name estates that put Virginia on the map, we want you to see it all in style.
Ready to Pick Your Path?
By now, you probably have a gut feeling.
Are you thinking, "I just want to get on the bus and have a glass of wine put in my hand"? Then go Connoisseur.
Are you thinking, "I want to see the views, but I want to decide for myself what I’m drinking"? Then go Explorer.
Either way, the views are going to be stunning, the wine is going to be cold (or room temp, if it’s a Red), and the memories are going to be top-tier.
Check out our available dates and let's get you out into the vines. If you still have questions about the logistics, our FAQ page covers everything from pickup locations to our cancellation policy.

Wine country is waiting. Whether you’re a Connoisseur or an Explorer, we’ve got a seat on the bus with your name on it. See you at the first stop!
